Hi Everybody. The summer break is over and we have a meeting this Thursday as usual at the Nevada Cancer Institute, 10441 West Twain at 7:00pm...
This month is a busy one as we have several things to discuss:
1> Our Guest Speaker is Skip Lockwood. Skip is the CEO of Zero-The project to End Prostate Cancer based in Washington DC. This is a lobby group that has been working with congress to get funding for prostate cancer research. He will update us on where the money is join and give us ways to help.
2> We have a major event for our group on September 24th. UsTOO in conjunction with 21st Century Oncology, is hosting a "This One's for the Boy's" Prostate cancer awareness walk at UNLV. Proceeds with go the CARE.org (75%) and to our own chapter (25%). Already we have received an $1,846.00 contribution from 21st Century to sponsor our meetings. I want to talk to our group about ways to bring awareness to our community through a committee we need to appoint. Please come and help us with this effort...
3> The Prostate Cancer Research Institute (PCRI) is hosting their annual Summit in Los Angeles. I will be driving down to attend and if anyone wants to go, we can pay a limited number of tuitions and I will be glad to have them ride with me. I have a place to stay down there, but you may need a room at the hotel where the event is being help. UsTOO will get the tuition, you will need to get the room.
We have a very important meeting this month ~ I look forward to seeing you...

A special friend...

This little fella is very special. He is made from a used chemotherapy drug bottle and clay. He was made by cancer survivors who give them away to patients during their chemo. The organization that provides information on how to do this is called "Bottles of Hope"... I decided to name this little mascot Walter. He is named after a friend that recently passed away from prostate cancer.

Meeting Notice for April 21st
Our meeting for April 21st has had a change of plan. Dr. Joel Marcus was scheduled to come and speak but he was laid off by the Nevada Cancer Institute in the recent layoffs and has had to decline the egagement.
Last month we had Dr. Nicholas Vogelzang come and he basically changed the plans of doing his presentation to answering questions about various topics including the recent news regarding Dr. Kaplan.
Because Dr. Marcus won't be coming Dr. Vogelzang has offered to come back and he will be presenting clinical trials and more information in regard to early and late prostate cancer. This works well because Dr. Vogelzang will not be able to return during 2011 due to scheduling conflicts. Anytime we can have a world recognized prostate cancer oncologist come we should take him up on the opportunity.
So please come see us. We also have more of the Mark Moyad books and information from Sanofi-aventis and the new Jevtana chemotherapy drug.
